Chilliwack River Watershed Strategy Development & Follow-Up
The Chilliwack River Watershed Strategy (CRWS) is a multi-stakeholder collaborative watershed planning process initiated in 2005 to bring people together to discuss the watershed and how to deal with some of the issues and challenges it faces.
2009 saw this planning phase of CRWS wrap-up. We finalized and printed our “Issues and Recommendations” Report, we engaged responsible agencies about the contents of CRWS and how they can help with implementation (with funding provided by the Fraser Salmon and Watersheds Program), and we are soon hosting a public ‘launch’ of CRWS to let residents and other stakeholders know about efforts taken to-date.
The next phase of CRWS is both exciting and challenging. It is important that we maintain momentum in this watershed to help deliver on achieving on-the-ground benefits. Based on the success of recently submitted funding applications, we want to continue providing a forum for information exchange about the watershed and start to establish a watershed health monitoring program that will enable us to note trends and evaluate success.
