Presentation Summary:  Michael Church - Saving Fraser River: Can it be done?

Fraser River is one of the world’s great salmonine rivers: it is also the central environmental feature of southern and central British Columbia and a focal element for much of British Columbia society. In this talk, the features that make it a great salmon producing stream and the effects of human actions on the integrity and productivity of the river will be discussed. Human actions have by far their greatest effect within the Lower Mainland. Discussion will be focused upon the ‘gravel-bed reach’ between Hope and Sumas Mountain, the reach with greatest habitat diversity and the greatest range of human effects.
