Hammersley Pump Upgrade Plan
With funding provided by the Fraser Salmon and Watersheds Program and the District of Kent, in 2008 we undertook a project to look at options for upgrading the Hammersley Pumping Station. This floodgate, along Mountain Slough in the District of Kent, is in need of upgrades, to better deal with flood levels, water quality, and fish mortality associated with the dated facility.
With the aid of NHC (consulting), site visits, and stakeholder meetings which included members of the local Drainage Committee, the District of Kent, the BC Ministry of Environment, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Balance Ecological, we have made substantial efforts at not only developing a strategy for moving forward with the pump station but also in building relationships and trust amongst stakeholders who have often not seen eye to eye on many previous issues in the region. Funding assistance was provided by the Fraser Salmon and Watersheds Program as well as the District of Kent.
